ASBESTOS

Asbestos is a fibrous mineral with many properties (thermal, fireproofing, electrical insulation, etc.). It has been used in the construction and renovation of buildings for decades.

Through the years, the asbestos containing materials degrade. The fibres contained in these materials are released in the atmosphere, and represent a danger for health.

The risks are multiple and serious: mesothelioma, lung cancer, asbestosis, pleural disease.

TWO TYPES OF ASBESTOS MATERIALS :

FRIABLE ASBESTOS

Prohibited in Belgium in 1986

Evacuation in Class 1 waste disposal

NON FRIABLE ASBESTOS

Prohibited in Belgium in 1999

Evacuation in Class 2 waste disposal
